Why We Started Our Honolulu Firm
When I started out in my law career, I realized that people filing for bankruptcy or facing foreclosures were often overwhelmed with a tremendous amount of confusion and stress, not only about their finances but with the adverse perception they had about foreclosure proceedings or filing for bankruptcy. We decided to shift our focus on our clients, making sure our advice provided them with a sound education about what they were about to embark upon. We ensure them that once they decide to submit their bankruptcy petition they will have peace of mind knowing that the result will provide them with a clean slate to start all over again.
Having my own law firm gave me the freedom to live up to my mission of helping others in a way that truly felt right to me. This is the reason we started Square One Legal and continue with great success until today.
If you are experiencing a great deal of stress and pressure from your mounting debt and late payments, you have come to the right place. At Square One Legal Hawaii we are committed to always, without exception, doing the right thing for our clients. If you are looking for a way to stop your creditors from calling you to collect late payments, protect your home from foreclosure, or stop your garnishments, we may have a solution for you.
Our Process
When you first meet me, you may be interested to know I am not from Hawaii, but I am from Israel. I have a funny accent (and I’m told I’m a funny guy) but don’t let that distract you from why you decided to learn more about Hawaii Bankruptcy Filings and how it can help you.
The first thing we do is assess your situation, so you can come prepared to discuss relevant information that helps us identify the right course of action for you.
Once we consider all your financials, we can help determine if bankruptcy (and what type of bankruptcy proceeding) is suitable for you. Maybe debt settlement will be better, but we must make our assessment first.
Come in and see what your options are, what you need to do to avoid bankruptcy and ultimately make your own decision on what your next steps should be.
It’s important to note that once you retain representation, you can direct all of your creditors to your attorney. Once you file your case your creditors are notified that they are prohibited from communicating with you by any means in an attempt to collect a debt. This is a significant part of the process because anyone who has been harassed by their creditors can tell you it is a huge relief when the calls and letters stop coming. The communication will change and from this point forward they will be dealing directly with Square One Legal.
When you file Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy, we must fill out a packet of forms. These consist of a “voluntary petition,” a number of other forms called “schedules,” and some additional forms. Often the whole packet is referred to as the “bankruptcy petition.”
Everyone who files for bankruptcy must do a mandatory credit counseling course and we provide you with the necessary information for how to complete your courses. We then file your petition with the court and schedule a “Meeting of the Creditors” where your creditors can appear before the Trustee to make any statement about the debt that you owe. Rest assured that while the creditors usually don’t show up for this meeting, we will be right there by your side to help and support you in any way we can.
You’ll know it is over when you get your bankruptcy discharge paperwork, which can typically take four to six months for a Chapter 7 and up to 5 years for a Chapter 13.
We provide guidance on how to rebuild credit after your discharge, which usually involves obtaining 3-5 secured/pre-paid credit cards. Clients who follow our lead can often reach a 700 credit score within two years of discharge.
Feel free to contact us for a free initial consultation. We put you under no obligation to move forward unless you are ready and the recommendation, we provide is suitable for you and your financial situation.
We look forward to serving you.
